Rudi Fernández-Cárdenas
Born in the Amazon rainforest, the Franco-Peruvian baritone Rudi Fernandez Cardenas studied voice at the National Conservatory of Music in Lima and at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in the class of Isabelle Guillaud.
He was a trainee at the CNIPAL (Centre National d’Insertion Professionnelle des Artistes Lyriques) in 2010–2011, and at the Opéra Studio of the Opéra national du Rhin for the 2011–2012 season.
He has also benefited from masterclasses and private lessons with Luigi Alva, Yvonne Minton, Max van Egmond, Mariella Devia, John Tomlinson, Veronica Cangemi, Sandrine Piau, David Syrus, Lionel Sarrazin, and Henry Runey.
He performed Beethoven’s Mass in C with the Orchestre Régional de Cannes under the baton of Philippe Bender, and also toured with the Orchestre national d’Île-de-France, conducted by Enrique Mazzola, in a program featuring works by Schubert and Beethoven. He has appeared as Périchaud in Puccini’s La Rondine at the Opéra de Toulon, Bustamante in Massenet’s La Navarraise at the Salle Pleyel, Ludovico in Verdi’s Otello at the Teatro Municipal de Lima, Manuel in De Falla’s La Vida Breve at the Opéra de Metz, Basilio in Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Théâtre National d’Alger, Sharpless in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly at the Gran Teatro Nacional de Lima, as well as Papageno in Die Zauberflöte on tour in Île-de-France with the Orchestre Symphonique Divertimento under the direction of Zahia Ziouani. He made his debut in Colombia, creating the title role in the opera “El último día de Pizarro” by Catalan composer Moisés Bertran, at the Teatro Julio Mario Santo Domingo in Bogotá, as well as at the University of Bogotá.
He has also premiered works by Indonesian composer Ananda Sukarlan and Peruvian composer Jimmy Lopez.
Increasingly devoted to the delicate art of recital, he explores a repertoire of composers as varied and essential as Debussy, Duparc, Fauré, and Liszt, as well as Villa-Lobos, Rachmaninov, Strauss, Falla, and many others.
Rudi currently has the honor of being a member of the Choir of the French Army.
